@Twelvebit: I'm with the JET programme - probably the safest of the programs because it is run by the govrnment, but only takes applications once a year. Unfortunately there are a lot more bad private companies that take advantage of their teachers than there are good programs here in Japan. I have friends however that have worked with some decent companies like a company called ALTIA and a few others I've forgotten the names to. But feel free to pass along my contact address that I'll send you and I'll help as best I can ;D. As long as you know which companies to stay away from, teaching in Japan can be a really wonderful experience.
