Lillian is a Maiko!!Posted by Nicole (Komono, Japan) on 12 January 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. Lillian and I took a day trip to Kyoto where Lillian got to experience getting dressed up as a Maiko! A Maiko is a Geisha in training and usually has cuter more flamboyant costumes. If you go to Kyoto various companies offer a service where for about 15000 ~ 30000 + yen or about 160 ~ 300 dollars they will dress you as a Maiko or Geisha with wig, make-up and pulled tight till you can't breath Kimono. The prices vary on the quality of the kimono, accessories, and wig as well as option photo studio time and an excursion outside. I was the photographer only this time around as I am not so much a fan of the make-up and wig on caucasians... truthfully most of the pictures I have seen of white foreigners getting dressed up as Maiko freak me out. Of course I told this to the foreigners waiting in line for their turn when they asked me why I wasn't getting dressed up too. haha - was funny actually - I think they booed me. There's always a first for everything. In any case I will do this eventually - but for now - here is Lillian!! Prints are now available for purchase!! I am in the process of uploading photos to the above site to be available for purchase. If there is any specific image that you would like to become available, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for stopping by!
