My new goldfish

Posted by Nicole (Komono, Japan) on 17 May 2008 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio.

A common sight in Japanese festivals are goldfish stalls. Children (and childlike adults such as myself) pay for the chance to fish for goldfish using a paddle made of paper. As soon as the paper enters the water it gets weak - causing it to not be able to withstand the weight of the goldfish you are trying to procure. Thus speed is of the essence.

Despite the fact that I am holding my goldfish in the air, I was actually not successfully in procuring a goldfish. The woman who mans the stall actually gives you goldfish whether you actually win them or not. (continued on yesterday's photo)
