Bringing India to Komono

Posted by Nicole (Komono, Japan) on 28 April 2008 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

As a thank you to the town of Komono for all their help in fund raising for India and Habitat for Humanity we put on a gallery in the town hall upon our return. Chai - Indian tea was served, Henna was available tor those who wanted it drawn, and Bindis were available for sale. I put on a slideshow in one room where people could sit, listen to Indian music and listen to my explanations of the photos and some aspects of Indian culture - and of course appreciate my photos and boost my ego. When I wasn't putting on the show I was helping people try on Saris, making tea and making the rounds with people who I knew that came to visit, overall a very busy weekend.

Out gallery made it into the newspaper a total of two times. Even the notoriously absent Made an appearance. The people that came were mostly people that either Vanessa or I invited, but every once in a while someone that we didn't know made an appearance. This adorable little boy was one of them. He hung around for quite a while with his mom enjoying tea and observing everything with those adorable huge eyes. another mother of a 3 month old made and appearance and took advantage of the fact that we were all eager to take the little girl off her hands for a few minutes. Overall it was a very successful weekend, grossing a little over $300 in profits for Habitat for Humanity.
