P - HAPPY 26TH BIRTHDAY VANESSA!Posted by Nicole (Komono, Japan) on 3 July 2009 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. For my friend Vanessa's Birthday, I decided to try out a photo project idea that I've had for a while. The basic idea is that I called up / e-mailed all of Vanessa's friends that I knew and a few that I didn't and got them to cooperate in this photo project. Each person got to choose a letter or number from the words HAPPY 26TH BIRTHDAY VANESSA! and take a picture with that letter. I then printed all the photos and pasted them to little boards and had the people in the picture write a message on the back. All of these boards were later bound into a book and given to Vanessa on her birthday... If you think this is hard to understand try explaining it in Japanese about 20 times ;D
Vanessa and I met the Tateishi family through badminton. One day we decided to stay after volleyball practice to see what the badminton group was like. Chippy and Yoshiko show up, Chippy runs in, sees us and promptly runs straight back out yelling to her mom, "Mom! Mom! There's two foreigners in there!" ;D It's funny to think that just a little over a year ago Chippy was that worried about meeting a few foreigners. Since then she has gone with us to England, she has given both of us mandatory hugs everytime we meet (We trained her up on the proper way to hug ^__^ since it is not part of the Japanese culture), and their family has practically become our family here in Komono. Yoshiko - or One-chan (big sister) as we call her is a saint. Although I hate to do it, sometimes I need to ask for a ride somewhere. One-chan is my number one go to person. She is so nice to us and never complains. She is a real go with the flow kind of person who is always smiling and is always there for others. I <3 One-chan. My strongest memory of Oni-chan (big brother) will always be hims saying "I am allergic to English" upon our first meeting. ;D His humor reminds me of my Dad sometimes, and I was happy to see that the two of them were able to get along well over bottles of sake last November when my parents came to visit. Curl - or Karu is their dog with strange interests like licking people's ear ,and rying to bite air when you breathe into his face. I can pet Karu for hours, and thus have become one of his favorite people. ;D Many thanks Tateishi family!!! Prints are now available for purchase!! I am in the process of uploading photos to the above site to be available for purchase. If there is any specific image that you would like to become available, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for stopping by!
